How do I get a ride?
Use an app on your smartphone (or a kiosk) and simply enter your destination. An automated electric vehicle will arrive to pick you up, usually within just a minute or two! You can ride in comfort, non-stop for about the same price as bus fare (or taxi fare if you choose a private ride).
How can my trip be non-stop in a crowded city?
Our main control system knows where every vehicle is, where it’s going, and where it will be a while into the future. Every trip is “pre-calculated” by the control system, and each vehicle is given a “reservation” on the track (guideway) along the entire route. This ensures there is a clear path for you from your origin to destination, without the need for stopping along the way. (If you selected a “shared ride,” you may make a planned stop or two along the way to pick up additional passengers.)
Can automated podcars really be safe?
Over the past few decades, early versions of automated podcars have already logged over 200 million passenger miles without causing any injuries or fatalities. This is a far better track record than any other mode of ground transportation! Next-gen Automated Transit Networks (ATN) are utilizing much better sensors and control system tech than was available in early podcar systems, so safety and reliability will improve even more as we move forward.
Why have I not seen this before?
There are several automated podcar systems operating in the US and around the world, mainly located on airports or campuses. Typically with any emerging technology, it takes time for the technology, cost and need to intersect in such a way that the concept really takes off. We are now at that point! We have the right technology available at an attractive cost, and there is urgent need in every major city in the world.
Isn’t this the same as a monorail?
Definitely not! Monorails are typically heavy vehicles operating on massive elevated tracks – basically a train operating on a very long (expensive!) concrete and steel bridge.
In contrast, our smaller, more personalized vehicles are built using very lightweight aerospace materials, allowing them to be produced at a low cost and to operate with up to 4x greater fuel efficiency than an electric car! Our podcars move quickly and quietly above the streets on a small, slender guideway that weaves elegantly throughout the urban cityscape. Since our system operates on-demand, your ride/route is fully customized — no inconvenient bus/train schedules to deal with and no need to stop at every station along your route!
